Hiring a clever programmer to do some of your coding tasks might sound like a no-brainer.
But it could also be a career killer.
“If you’re the kind of person who’s going to work with code, then you’re going to get an opportunity to get a little more paid,” said Mark Smith, co-founder of coding bootcamp, Coders United.
“The coding bootcamps, like all bootcamp programs, have a very specific niche in their audience.
But there are so many opportunities in the software industry.”
Smith, who founded Coders Unite in 2013, said there’s a lot of pressure to meet sales goals during an election year.
And, as we head into a new administration, a lot more pressure to be successful.
“The reality is that a lot people are looking for jobs that they think will be in their lifetime,” he said.
“It’s like looking for a job where you can walk into the barbershop and say, ‘Hey, this is my barber.'”
Smith said the biggest problem is that employers don’t really know what they’re looking for, and people tend to overlook opportunities when they think they’re the only ones.
“I think we’re seeing a lot less of that with jobs,” he added.
But some of the best candidates are working in the tech industry.
Smith said the best companies to look at are companies that have “a really robust tech background and a really solid engineering background.”
He added that people with strong programming skills and coding experience are especially attractive.
“Coding is not a one-trick pony.
It’s a skill that can be learned,” Smith said.”
When you get a chance to do a coding boot camp, you get to see some of these people get a ton of exposure.
And I think that gives you an idea that there’s definitely a demand out there.”
For those who don’t have coding experience, a coding class is a great way to learn how to code.
Smith recommended that people first try out a coding course, then try out their first job.
And he added that there are opportunities in software as well, especially as a job market becomes more competitive.
“You have a big chance of getting an offer that you’re not going to pass up, even if it’s just a little bit,” Smith added.
“You have to find a way to go from zero to a little over $40,000 a year, and then you have a great chance of landing a job that will be worth it.”
He said the jobs that are the best for software developers are also the ones that will pay the best.
“People that have a coding background, they have the experience and the skills to get that job,” he explained.
“So if you’re a really good programmer, you’re probably going to have a better shot than a great programmer.”
A new president could change that.
In November, President-elect Donald Trump tapped tech titan Elon Musk to head up his transition team.
Musk has a history of working with politicians and has also been involved in tech ventures, including SpaceX and Tesla.
In his first day as president, Trump said he wants to make sure that Americans have “access to the best and most innovative companies and jobs.”
The president-elect’s first official announcement on his transition will be made at the company’s headquarters in California.
“It’s really important that we don’t leave any legacy that we can’t clean up,” Musk said.
